THE PIONEERS AND OKLAHOMA CHRISTIAN FINISHES IN A TIE

EDMOND, Okla. (Oct. 9, 2024) – The Texas Woman's soccer team finished in a tie for the second time in three games after Friday night's match against Oklahoma Christian. The Pioneers were able to contain the Eagle offensive attack, who entered the game scoring a combined 10 goals in their last three matches.

The two teams were in a chess match to start the game with field position battles before the game picked up in the second half. TWU (5-2-2) was able to hold off OC (6-1-3) from converting their scoring opportunities and ended in a draw.

IMPACT PLAYERS

KEY MOMENTS

  • '9: Erica Brelove gets the first Pioneer chance at the goal off a free kick from Celeste Beltran but has it interrupted by an OC defender.

  • '11: TWU senior goalkeeper Amanda Farris secured her first out of six saves on an Oklahoma Christian free kick attempt just outside the box.

  • To conclude the first half, Monse Bueno got a good look at the goal for the Pioneers after some solid defensive play to keep the Eagles out of the net.

  • In the 61st minute, Farris made a huge save on an OC free kick opportunity in front of the goal and cleared out the ball to keep them scoreless.

  • Farris made three additional saves in the second half and finished the game holding a high scoring Eagles attack to zero goals.

FROM HEAD COACH BABAK ABOUZAR
"To begin the first half we came out relaxed with no real sense of urgency," Head Coach Babak Abouzar said. "The second half was better but not to where it needed to be at our level. OCU is a team of moments and they find ways to score in them. I think we did a decent job of limiting those but not enough of creating chances for ourselves. We'll learn from this and get better."

NEXT UP
TWU are back at Pioneer Soccer Park this Saturday, Oct. 12, as they take on Texas A&M International. The match begins at 7 p.m.
