PORTALES, N.M. (Nov. 15, 2024) – On Friday night, the Texas Woman's volleyball team returned to the win column with a strong sweep over Eastern New Mexico.
TWU (19-7, 12-3) defeated ENMU (5-21, 2-13) in three straight sets to record their sixth sweep of the season.
The Pioneers recorded their third straight win over the Greyhounds in program history and 28th all-time.
IMPACT PLAYERS
- Malia Viernes led the Pioneers with 14 kills in the win, and she hit a season high .458. She also added 11 digs in the win to record her 10th double-double of the season.
- Erin Jones and Tori Woods both finished with 10 kills. Jones hit .500 on the night. Woods added seven digs to her stat line.
- Grace Reynolds led the Pioneers in assists with 26, and she added nine digs and one service ace in the win.
- Luna França topped the TWU leaderboard in digs, closing the match with 20.
- Kenn Jean-Louis led the defense effort for the Pioneers at the net, as she recorded three block assists.
- Kiana Reed added a season high two aces for TWU. She also finished with 14 assists and eight digs.
PIONEER POWER MOMENTS
- In the opening set, the Pioneers jumped out to an early 6-1 lead, as Woods connected on a service ace to give TWU the 6-1 advantage.
- Two attack errors by the Greyhounds gave TWU their first 10-point lead of the set, 21-11.
- The Pioneers would score the final four points of the set. Kiana Reed would set up set point for TWU, 24-12. Then, she would connect on another ace to close the set for TWU, 25-12.
- In set two, the score went back-and-forth. TWU opened the lead up, scoring four straight to take the five-point lead, 13-8, after a block by Jones and Jean-Louis.
- Late in the set, a kill by Woods would ignite a 5-0 run for TWU. Myracle Stockman would give TWU their 20th point of the set to increase the Pioneers' lead to eight, 20-12.
- Viernes brought up set point after a kill, 24-15. Then, Kady Hansen ended the set with a kill, 25-16, as the Pioneers took the 2-0 match lead.
- The Pioneers came out strong in set three, as they opened the set with six unanswered points.
- A block by Stockman and Jean-Louis increased TWU's lead to 10, 23-13.
- A kill by Stockman brought up match point for TWU, 24-14. Then, a setter's dump by Kiana Reed closed the match for TWU, 25-14.
