PIONEERS FALL IN REGULAR SEASON FINALE TO WT

CANYON, Texas (Nov. 16, 2024) – The Texas Woman's volleyball team closed the regular season with a loss to No. 6 West Texas A&M.

TWU (19-8, 12-4) fell to WT (23-3, 16-0) in three sets – each set was decided by five points or less.

The Pioneers close the regular season with a 12-4 record in Lone Star Conference play, matching their best record in conference action since the 2015 season.

With several matches still to finish this afternoon, TWU currently ranks fourth in the LSC. The final LSC Championships bracket will be released tonight.

IMPACT PLAYERS
  • Myracle Stockman and Erin Jones led the Pioneers with 14 kills each. Stockman hit .522 on the day, and Jones hit .379 in the match. Stockman also added two block assists.
  • Tori Woods finished the match with nine kills and five digs.
  • Kenn Jean-Louis recorded a season high two solo blocks in the match. She hit .600 on the day with three kills.
  • Grace Reynolds dished out 23 assists, while Kiana Reed added 22 assists.
  • Luna França led the Pioneers in the digs category with 14, and Malia Viernes added eight.
 IMPACT MOMENTS
  • The match was a back-and-forth affair, as the Pioneers did a good job of limiting long runs by the Lady Buffs.
  • Both teams hit an even .333. TWU won the block battle with seven to WT's six. TWU did allow the Lady Buffs to connect on five service aces.
  • In the first set, a successful setter dump by Kiana Reed gave TWU the one-point lead, 7-6.
  • WT went on a 3-0 run and pushed the lead to four, 14-10. The Pioneers worked to battle back and came within one multiple times in the set but were unable to close the deficit, falling in set one, 25-20.
  • The second set saw 14 ties as TWU worked to equalize the match.
  • The Pioneers found their largest lead of the second set, 19-16, after a 3-0 run was ignited by a kill from Woods.
  • A kill by Stockman would bring up the first set point for the Pioneers, 24-23. TWU would battle toe-to-toe with the Lady Buffs to close set two. Another kill by Stockman would tie it at 26. Then, a kill by Woods would tie it at 27; nevertheless, WT would close the set with two straight points to win set two, 29-27.
  • In set three, the Pioneers went on a late three-point run to come within one, 21-20, after a block by Kady Hansen and Viernes.
  • The score would go back-and-forth to end the set. A kill by Stockman would bring TWU back within one, 24-23, but WT would close the set, 25-23, and win the match.
NEXT UP

The Pioneers await the release of the LSC Championships bracket tonight, which will announce their opponent and game time for the tournament.
