CANYON, Texas (Nov. 21, 2024) – In the opening round of the Lone Star Conference Tournament, the Texas Woman's volleyball team fell in three sets to Dallas Baptist.
TWU (19-9, 12-4) battled the five seed DBU (19-8, 12-4) on Thursday night.
The Pioneers struggled to find their rhythm on offense against the Lady Patriots, hitting .113 on the night for 29 kills.
IMPACT PLAYERS
- Erin Jones led the Pioneers on offense with eight kills. She added two block assists to her stat line.
- Tori Woods finished with six kills, six digs, two solo blocks and three aces.
- Malia Viernes also added six kills and four digs.
- Myracle Stockman and Kady Hansen both finished the night with four kills. Stockman added two blocks and three digs in the match.
- Grace Reynolds dished out 13 assists, and Kiana Reed finished with 11 assists. Reynolds added seven digs, and Reed led the Pioneers with eight digs and one ace.
IMPACT MOMENTS
- The Pioneers started off strong in set one, opening the set with a 6-1 lead.
- DBU evened it at eight, but TWU pushed back ahead, 11-8, after three straight points – a run which was ignited by a kill from Viernes.
- With TWU leading 12-9, DBU mounted a 4-0 run to take a one point lead 13-12. The Pioneers would tie it up two more times, but the Lady Patriots closed the set with a 5-1 run to claim set one, 25-20.
- In set two, the Pioneers came within two after a kill by Stockman and an ace by Kiana Reed, 10-8. TWU was unable to piece together scoring runs in set two, as DBU won set two, 25-17.
- The Lady Patriots scored four straight to open set three. The Pioneers answered with three straight points of their own, ignited by a block from Woods.
- The two teams went back-and-forth with points, until DBU scored seven unanswered points to take the lead, 17-8. The Pioneers were unable to respond late in the set, as DBU closed set three, 25-14, to win the match.
