Box Score 3 DENTON, Texas (Feb. 18, 2024) - The Texas Woman's softball team kicks off their conference play with a big Lone Star Conference victory in their first series against Cameron. Despise dropping their last game, the Pioneers came out with the series victory against CU.
TWU (4-6, 2-1) recorded two victories and a loss against a tough opponent, Cameron (4-2, 2-2). The first game of the series was held on Friday, Feb. 17. which ended on a solid win for the Pioneers (5-0).
The Aggies struggled to ge something going against the Pioneers during windy conditions on day one.
Madison Altman,
Delaney Boley,
Piper Morton,
Callie Bailey and
Vivica Hernandez were the scoring Pioneers for the 5-0 win against the Aggies on the first game of the series.
After four scoreless inning, the Pioneers opened the scoreboard with four runs at the top of the fourth.
With Boley and
Piper Morton on bases, Bailey pushed the first run for the Pioneers by hitting a double that allowed Boley to score. Another double for Hernandez, who recorded her first 2RBI, got Bailey and Morton to score and the Pioneers took the lead 4-0.
TWU added the last run of the game at the top of the fifth when Boley hit a double and allowed Altman to score the 5-0 that would give the Pioneers the victory over the Aggies.
Alyssa LeBlanc (2-2) pitched another no-hitter for the Pioneers for the second time this season.
The Pioneers went 2-0 after their second game of the series, which was played on Saturday afternoon. TWU defeated CU 3-1 and recorded their fourth win of the season.
In the last game of the series, the Aggies picked momentum back up, and took the victory over the Pioneers with a 10-0 result. The Pioneers ultimately took the series victory.
Allison Gonzalez (0-3) took the loss for the Pioneers in the third game against CU.
In 2023, the Pioneers also took the series victory against Cameron with a 2-1 overall series record. The all time record stands 34-29-1 in favor of the Pioneers.
TWU was one of the three teams to start their LSC season with two victories and a loss. They are sitting in sixth place in the LSC standings along with Oklahoma Christian and Western Nex Mexico. Angelo State and Wes Texas A&M were the only two teams in the conference to start their season with a perfect 3-0.
The Pioneers will be back in action on Tuesday and Wednesday, Feb. 20 and 21 in Laredo, Texas to continue their LSC journey while taking on Texas A&M International.
