TWO WINS FOR THE PIONEERS IN LAREDO

LAREDO, Texas (Feb. 20, 2024) - Two wins in two games for the Texas Woman's softball team in the double-header against Texas A&M International.

In the series between the Pioneers (6-6, 4-1) and the Dustdevils (5-10, 2-3), TWU collected two wins on Tuesday, Feb. 20 in Laredo TX.

In the first game of the day, the Pioneers defeated TAMIU 2-0. The runs came on the top of the second and sixth innings. Delaney Boley singled to shortstop and collected the first RBI of the game, while allowing Piper Morton to score the first run for TWU.

The last run of the first game between the Pioneers and the Dustdevils came from another single on the hands of Vivica Hernandez. Kyleigh Clements reached home after entering to pinch run for Boley.

Alyssa LeBlanc (3-2) took the win for the Pioneers and positioned herself in the top five of the Lone Star Conference standings on Earned Run Average (2.18), Batters Struck Out (36), and Batters SO Looking (10).

Despite starting the first inning down one run, the Pioneers picked momentum back up and recorded another victory against the Dustdevils (7-5).

TWU collected two of the seven runs in the second inning, and the other five during the top of the sixth.

Two back to back home runs from Elizabeth Smith and Boley put the Pioneers on a 2-1 lead. However, the Dusdevils had a quick response and scored three runs in the bottom of the second and one more in the third inning and took the temporary lead (5-2).

In the sixth inning, Morton hit a double to the left side of the field and recorded 2RBIs - Callie Bailey and Ciana Rodriguez added two more runs to the Pioneer's count.

Hernandez sealed the deal for TWU once again with a double to center field (2RBIs) that allowed Morton and Lauryn Davies to score.

Allison Gonzalez (1-3) collected her first positive result of the season.
TWU is currently ranked third in the LSC as the only team with only one loss so far this season in conference play. Angelo State and West Texas are the only two teams in the conference to loss a game yet.

The Pioneers are ready to face the Dustdevils one last time this regular season tomorrow, Wednesday, Feb. 21 at noon.
