DENTON, Texas (Feb. 22, 2024) - The Texas Woman's softball team ended their trip to Laredo, TX with another win against Texas A&M International, and took home the series on their second Lone Start Conference encounter of the season.
After winning both games on Feb. 20, TWU (7-6, 5-1) defeated the Dustdevils (5-11, 2-4) in the third and last game of the series.
The Pioneers added runs in the second, fourth and seventh innings and dominated the game 6-0. The successful weekend in Laredo ranks the Pioneers in the third spot of the LSC ranking just behind Angelo State, 6-0 in conference play, and West Texas A&M with only three games (3-0).
Elizabeth Smith opened the second inning with a home run for the Pioneers and collected the first run of the game. Abigail Long scored from second base after a double to the left field by Ciana Rodriguez who recorded her first RBI. The Pioneers closed the second inning with a 2-0 lead.
TWU added two more runs in the top of the fourth.
Long homered to add another run for the Pioneers. Rodriguez reached first base after an error from the Dustdevil's shortstop and quickly after, stole second and advanced to third on the throw. Callie Bailey got the RBI after a sacrifice hit that allowed Rodriguez to score the fourth run for the Pioneers.
In the top of the seventh, Kate Franz came in to pinch run for Makana Monrton, where she would steal second. Alyssa LeBlanc homered and collected 2RBIs to seal the 6-0 game for TWU.
Janyssa Ramos recorded her second personal win for the Pioneers and is now 2-2 so far this season.
The Pioneers are set to host a double-header against Lubbock Christian this Saturday, Feb. 24 for the home opener at 1:00 & 3:00 p.m. at Dianne Baker Field.
