DENTON, Texas (Feb. 27, 2024) - The Texas Woman's softball team faced the Angelo State Rambelles and recorded a loss and a win in their second Lone Star Conference double-header at home.
TWU (10-8, 8-3) started the series with a 2-0 win over ASU (16-5, 7-4). In game number two, the Rambelles picked up some momentum and took the win with a 8-4 result. Tomorrow's game will be decisive in which team will win the series.
Alyssa LeBlanc (4-2) pitched the full seven innings in game one with only one hit allowed on 26 batters from the Rambelles. LeBlanc also recorded five strikeouts. For the second game of the double-header Jaycie Hall (2-2) and Janissa Ramos shared the mound for the Pioneers.
In the first game of the series, the Pioneers took the early lead in the bottom of the first inning. Catcher Delaney Boley hit a single through the left side of the field and collected an RBI while pushing Vivica Hernandez to home base and record the first run for TWU.
Both teams struggled to get something going for the rest of the game until the Pioneers added the last run of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning. Ciana Rodriguez singled to third base, and advanced to second after Crystina Del Hierro was hit by the pitch. Rodriguez stole second right before Hawwa Townsend (RBI) flied out to right field and allowed Rodriguez to score.
Game number two was an incredible even one for the first three innings of the game. The Pioneers started leading the game by scoring two runs in the first inning.
Callie Bailey and Lauryn Davies reached home plate on a double to right center from Hernandez. The Rambelles tied things up in the top of the third, took the lead in the fifth inning by one run and ended that inning 3-2 over the Pioneers.
ASU collected another three runs and by the top of the sixth inning, the Rambelles were up by six runs. However, the Pioneers closed the gap in the bottom of the sixth.
LeBlanc collected a single to the left single and 2RBIs while advancing Davies and Bailey scored again. The Pioneers fell short to the Rambelles in game two.
TWU is ranked third in the LSC after today's double-header while the Rambelles take the sixth spot.
The final game of the series will be decisive for both teams to determine who will take the series win home. Game three is set to be played on Wednesday, Feb. 28 at 1:00 p.m. at Dianne Baker Field.
