PIONEERS DROP DOUBLEHEADER TO NO.5 UT TYLER

TYLER, Texas (March 13, 2024) - The Texas Woman's softball team dropped the conference doubleheader in the series against UT Tyler in midweek Lone Star Conference action.

TWU (14-16, 12-9) fell 6-2 and 2-1 against UTT (22-5, 14-4) on the road on Wednesday afternoon. The Patriots extended their winning streak to 13 games.

The Pioneers started both games scoring first and taking the lead over the Patriots. After two full innings with no runs and only one hit from UTT, the Pioneers took the 1-0 lead as Vivica Hernandez reached first base on a throwing error by the Patriot's pitcher and Hawwa Townsend, who reached first on a single down the left line, advanced to the scoring plate on the error. The run was recorded as unearned.

While TWU was unable to gain momentum after scoring their first run, UTT scored five runs in the bottom of the third with only one hit.

TWU added their last run of the game in the top of the fourth. The Pioneer's catcher, Delaney Boley, recorded her first home run of the season, homered to left center, cruised around the diamond and collected an RBI for the Pioneers.

UTT responded quickly after with four hits and three runs in the bottom of the fifth. The Patriots took game one 8-2.

Jaycie Hall (3-5), who started in the circle for the Pioneers, faced eight at bats and struck out two of them, before Allison Gonzalez came in to pitch the last 3.2 innings. Gonzalez faced 14 batters in 67 pitches and struck out two of them.

The second game of the afternoon started with the Pioneers getting on the board quickly on the top of the second inning.

Boley hit another electric home run to center field to open up the board for the Pioneers and scored the only run for TWU in game two.

The Patriots had a quick response and got on the board due to an eros from the Pioneer's first. The game remained tied up (1-1) until the seventh inning.

With the bases loaded, the UTT connected a single that allowed the last and winning run of the game to be scored. This marks the 13 games won in a row for the Patriots.

Five Pioneers recorded a hit, Hernandez, Callie Bailey, Alyssa LeBlanc, Boley, and Madison Altman

Hall and LeBlanc (7-7) took care of the pitching for the Pioneers in game two. Hall pitched 3.2 innings, while Leblanc pitched 2.2 innings. Combined, they faced 25 at bats and pitched a total of 125 times. Both of them struck out one Patriot and gave out two walks each.

UTT maintained their second place ranking in the LSC standings while TWU moved to eight.

The Pioneers will be back in action on Saturday, March 16 at home in a conference doubleheader at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. against Midwestern State.
