TWU ARTISTIC SWIMMING SET TO DEFEND THEIR HOUSE

DENTON, Texas (March 21, 2024) - The 2024 US Collegiate Nationals is set to start tomorrow, March 22 in Lewisville, Texas and the Texas Woman's artistic swimming team is ready to defend their house as the hosts of the event for the first time in program history. 

The event will start with the technical event on Friday at 9:30 am and followed by the solo and duet events at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. respectively. On Saturday, March 22 the teams will perform their trio (9:15 am) and team (12:30 pm) routines to finish off the competition. For the first time in the history of the competition, the events will be finals only. 

TWU will compete in all the events and brings two solos, one duet, one trio and two team routines. The Pioneers' goal is to swim seven base mark free routines this weekend in Lewisville in order for them to get credit for all of their difficulty performed.

TWU will face the 2024 US Nationals reigning champions, Ohio State, Stanford, University of Incarnate World, UCLA, Wheaton and several other school this weekend. The Pioneers placed fourth overall behind OSU, SUS and UIW in last years competition and they hope to better that place finish. 

Freshman Maya Schwickert and sophomore Candela Fidalgo Garcia will be in charge of leading the Pioneers in the solo event. Fidalgo Garcia will pair up with Regina Ramirez for the duet event. Schwickert, junior Ashley Latchford and senior Makayla Chrichton will be the Pioneers representing TWU in the trip event. 

For the first time in program history the Pioneers will be have two team routines competing at the National level. Teams Oakley and Minerva will perform their high energy and electric routines to the theme 'Moulin Rouge' -With new updated and high difficulty routines, the Pioneers hope to make an impact on the artistic side of the sport with these routines.
