KINGSVILLE, Texas (April 14, 2024) - The Texas Woman's softball team closed out their 3-game series with a 1-0 shutout against Texas A&M - Kingsville on Sunday, April 14, to take the series 2-1.
TWU (21-26, 19-17) defeated TAMUK (27-20, 20-19) on Sunday 1-0 after an RBI sac fly to right field that scored Alyssa LeBlanc.
The win over the Javelinas puts the Pioneers ahead of Texas A&MÂ - Kingsville in LSC play.
Alyssa Lablanc (13-10) secured the shutout game after pitching seven innings for the Pioneers and finished the weekend 2-0 in the circle. LeBlanc remains first in the LSC in shutout wins, innings pitched, and strikeouts. Leblanc finished the day with five strikeouts and four hits allowed on 25 batters faced.
Both teams started this well-anticipated series finale solid defensively, with the first three batters put out. The Pioneers then broke the ice at the plate with a lead off double to begin the second inning by LeBlanc, who advanced to third on a sac bunt by Elizabeth Smith.
Makana Morton brought in LeBlanc for the winning run to cap off the top of the second with a sac fly to right field.
In the following three innings, the two teams combined for four hits and six runners left on base as the score remained 1-0 heading into the final stretch. The Pioneers were able to hold off the Javelinas and get the final six outs to finish off the series on the road and improve to 21 wins on the season.
TWU will travel to Silver City, N.M., for a 3-game series with Western New Mexico next weekend on April 19 at 1 & 3 p.m. and April 20 at 11 a.m.
