ORLANDO, Fla. (May 20, 2024) – In celebration of its 50th Anniversary,
Division II awarded 46 scholarships, honoring one male and one female from all 23 conferences and independent institutions.
According to the NCAA, the commemorative scholarship is awarded to student-athletes who "exhibit the core values of Division II."
The $1,000 scholarship honors student-athletes who have "exemplified the division's Life in the Balance philosophy through high-level athletics competition, academic achievement, campus involvement and community engagement."
Over 196 student-athletes were nominated from Division II institutions. Then, nominees were reviewed by the conference offices, and the conference offices selected up to four finalists for review by the Division II Management Council Identity Subcommittee. Finally, the subcommittee determined the recipients.
From the Lone Star Conference,
Ashley Ingram was selected as the female scholarship recipient.
"TWU is extremely proud of Ashley," said TWU Director of Athletics Sandee Mott. "She is an exceptional student, an extraordinary athlete, an outstanding leader and an even better person. She is in the Honors Program, a member of SAAC, is engaged in multiple volunteer activities and is an All-America basketball athlete. She truly embodies all the attributes we tout regarding DII, and we are honored she is being recognized and awarded this scholarship."
This scholarship announcement caps off an incredible year for the junior basketball student-athlete at TWU.
During her junior season with the Pioneers, she championed the team to numerous historical feats, including back-to-back LSC Regular Season Titles, the LSC Tournament Title, the program's first South Central Regional Title and the program's first appearance in the National Championship game.
Additionally, along the way, Ingram celebrated personal accolades as well. She was named TWU's first LSC Player of the Year, the program's first D2CCA South Central Region Most Valuable Player and the first South Central Regional Tournament Most Valuable Player.
Ingram also earned not one, but two All-American First Team accolades, as she became the program's first D2CCA All-American and also earned her second WBCA All-American honor.
Committed to success in the classroom as well, Ingram maintains a 3.863 grade point average in her pursuit of a degree in kinesiology with an occupational therapy focus. For her success in academics, Ingram was named a College Sports Communicators First Team Academic All-American – the first in TWU history.
Ingram also aims to give back to the community through numerous service projects on campus and in the community, including serving with Fellowship of Christian Athletes, TWU's Student Athlete Advisory Committee and teaching young girls basketball.
With her commitment to excellence in all she does, Ingram truly embodies the core values of Division II and selflessly pursues greatness.
