TWU FALLS TO UAFS ON DAY TWO OF DENTON VOLLEYFEST

DENTON, Texas (Sept. 13, 2024) – On Friday afternoon, the Texas Woman's volleyball team faced former Lone Star Conference opponent the University of Arkansas Forth Smith in their second match of the Denton Volleyfest.

TWU (2-3) battled back from being down two sets to win set three, but they ended up falling in four sets to UAFS (4-1).

IMPACT PLAYERS
  • Erin Jones led the Pioneers with 13 kills – her fifth straight match with 10 or more kills.
  • Tori Woods finished with her third double-double of the season, recording 11 kills and 15 digs. Her 15 digs marked a season high.
  • Kady Hansen joined Woods and Jones with double digit with a season high 11 kills. Hansen also led the attack for TWU, as she hit .474 on the night.
  • Grace Reynolds led the Pioneers in assists with 24. She also added a season high 17 digs to record her fourth double-double of the season.
  • Reynolds and Luna França tied for most digs on the Pioneers' side – both finishing with 17.
  • Hansen and Myracle Stockman dominated the net, as both players led TWU with three block assists. The Pioneers finished the match with eight total blocks.
  • Reynolds once again dominated the service line, recording three aces.
KEY MOMENTS
  • UAFS led the entirety of set one. The Pioneers came within one point, 12-11, after a three-point run, which included an ace by Reynolds and a kill by Jones.
  • After two straight kills by Jones to hold the score at 23-20 in favor of UAFS, the Lions closed out set one with two straight points.
  • In set two, UAFS mounted a 7-0 run to take an early 8-3 lead.
  • Then, the Pioneers caught fire and went on a 9-2 run to turn the tides and take a two point lead, 12-10. UAFS scored one point, but TWU maintained the high energy and scored four straight to extend their lead to five, 16-11.
  • With the five point advantage, the Lions and the Pioneers traded points, before the Lions ended set two with a 9-2 run.
  • There were 17 ties in the third set, as both teams battled for the win.
  • After trailing 23-22 late, the Pioneers went ahead by one after a UAFS service error and a monster block by Hansen and Stockman, 24-23. UAFS took a slight advantage, 25-24, but the Pioneers closed out the set with three straight points. After two UAFS attack errors, Stockman put the exclamation point on the set three win.
  • After a kill by Hansen and kill by Woods, the Pioneers had an 8-4 advantage early in set four. UAFS found the lead after a four-point run to go ahead 11-10.
  • TWU found their last lead of the set after a kill by Stockman put them ahead by two 19-17. An 8-4 run closed the match in the Lions' favor.
  • TWU finished with six aces to the Lions' eight, and UAFS closed the match with 14 blocks to the Pioneers' eight.
NEXT UP

The Pioneers will be back in action tomorrow to close out the Denton Volleyfest tomorrow with two matches. They will face Henderson State at 9 a.m. Then, TWU will close out their home stand against Pittsburg State at 4:30 p.m.
