AUSTIN, Texas (Oct. 17, 2025) – Sweep dreams Pioneer fans.
Texas Woman's (12-6, 5-2) recorded their third straight sweep, defeating St. Edward's (5-8, 2-6) on Friday night.
In the win,
Tori Woods recorded six kills – the exact amount she needed to officially claim 1,000 career kills.
The Pioneers dominated the defensive play in the win, recording 14 total blocks. It marked the fifth match this season TWU finished with double-digit blocks. The main defender at the net for TWU was
Benedite Anuman, who finished with a career high 10 total blocks.
Behind the strong block and suffocating defense, the Pioneers held the Hilltoppers to hitting just .137 on the night.
KEY PLAYERS
- Trinity Blackwood led the Pioneers with nine kills and hit .467. She also added four block assists and a career high three digs.
- To her 10 total blocks, Anuman added a career high seven kills and hit .500 on the night.
- Kiana Reed led TWU with 16 assists and also recorded nine digs, and Lorena Gómez added 11 assists, two aces and five digs.
- Sydney Garrison led from the service line with three total aces.
- Myracle Stockman was strong on the block in the win. She finished with six total blocks and added five digs.
- Alyssa Rojo topped the Pioneers leader board in digs with 11 total. Woods and Reed both finished with nine digs.
PIONEER POWER MOMENTS
- In set one, the Hilltoppers jumped out to an early 9-1 lead. TWU found their rhythm and cut the lead to five, 11-6. Then, the Pioneers took off in scoring. A kill by Garrison followed by an ace by Garrison ignited a 9-0 run to give TWU the strong lead, 15-11. TWU did not look back after flipping the switch with their 14-2 overall early run. Late in the set, they scored three straight, as an ace by Gomez brought up set point, 24-16. A kill by Blackwood ended the set for TWU, 25-17.
- The Pioneers opened set two with a 6-2 run, starting off the set with a block by Donowa and Stockman. TWU kept the long runs rolling in set two to continue to control the tone and pace of play in the match. An attack error by SEU brought up set point, and Anuman connected on a kill to end the set, 15-17, and give TWU the 2-0 match lead.
- Set three started out with back-and-forth scoring. Similar to set one, the Hilltoppers jumped out to a 12-2 lead. The Pioneers quickly found their response. A kill by Garrison followed by a block by Anuman ignited a 11-2 run to put TWU ahead 21-14. A kill by Blackwood would bring up set point, 24-16. A Hilltoppers attack error ended set three, 25-18, in TWU's favor, completing the sweep.
