PIONEERS POST FOURTH 4-0 WIN WITH SHUTOUT OVER EASTERN NEW MEXICO

DENTON, Texas (Oct. 1, 2025) – For the fourth time this season, Texas Woman's Soccer recorded a dominant 4-0 shutout, defeating Eastern New Mexico on Wednesday night at Pioneer Soccer Park.

The Pioneers (8-0-1, 4-0-1) set the tone early, scoring in the third minute and never looking back. TWU netted two goals in each half while limiting the Greyhounds (0-7, 0-4) to zero shots for the second time this season. The win marked the team's sixth shutout of the year.

Four different Pioneers found the back of the net as TWU fired a season-high 33 shots, including 11 on goal.

KEY MOMENTS

  • 3' – Brelove opened the scoring with a header off a set piece from Celeste Beltran, giving TWU an early 1-0 lead.
  • 28' – The Pioneers doubled their lead on a corner, as Bri Luna's service found Mia Thaxton, who dished it to Gutierrez for the finish.
  • 76' – After a 40-minute scoring drought, TWU broke through again. Carringtyn Johnson notched her first assist as a Pioneer, finding Alfaro for a soft touch over the keeper to make it 3-0.
  • 90' – TWU sealed the win in the final minute. Cadence Andersen connected with  Jaida Arizmendi, who found Halee Avery in stride for the final goal.
  • Defensively, TWU kept Eastern New Mexico completely in check, not allowing a single shot attempt.

"Proud of how our team scored an early goal to set the tone for the game," Abouzar said. "We've been focusing on getting on the end of corner kicks, and we got on the end of two tonight, which was good to see. We are halfway through the season and have done an amazing job. We're looking forward to the second half and what we can accomplish."

TWU wraps up the week on Saturday in Tyler, Texas, against UT Tyler at the Citizens 1st Bank–Perkins Soccer Complex. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
