ARAIZA’S FIRST HALF GOAL LIFT PIONEERS OVER LCU

LUBBOCK, Texas (Oct. 22, 2025) – Texas Woman's Soccer returned to the win column on Wednesday evening, earning a hard fought 1-0 road victory over Lubbock Christian in Lone Star Conference play at the LCU Soccer & Track Facility.

The Pioneers (10-2-3, 6-2-3 LSC) broke through in the 44th minute when Ailyn Oliveros played Mia Thaxton into space on the right flank, who delivered a low cross that Nadia Araiza buried for the decisive goal against the Lady Chaps (6-5-2, 4-3-2). The score marked Araiza's third of the season and gave TWU the edge heading into halftime.

Behind a disciplined defensive performance, TWU limited the Lady Chaps to six total shots and earned their eighth shutout of the year, anchored by goalkeeper Faith Graves, who recorded two key saves. With the win, the Pioneers reached double-digit victories for the third straight season under Head Coach Babak Abouzar.

KEY MOMENTS

  • 44': Araiza scores the lone goal after a cross from Oliveros that found Thaxton on the back side who was able to send it in for Araiza to put the Pioneers 1-0 before the half.

  • 80'-83': Two crucial second half saves by Graves helps preserve the clean sheet and get the Pioneers the big road shutout win against the Lady Chaps

FROM HEAD COACH BABAK ABOUZAR
"This was a much needed win for our team," Head Coach Babak Abouzar. "We've been close 2 of the last 3 games but struggled to just close the game out. Today we were able to do a great job of closing the game out and getting the win. Our subs did a really good job of coming in and raising the level of play. Nadia finished a really good opportunity to close out the first half. We will enjoy this hard fought win and enjoy some time off before we prepare for our next game in a week."

NEXT UP
The Pioneers are back on the pitch next Wednesday in Oklahoma for their final road game of the regular season as they take on Oklahoma Christian at 7 p.m., at Eagle Soccer FIeld.
