PIONEERS WIN SET ONE, BUT FALL TO #14 WT IN CANYON

CANYON, Texas (Oct. 4, 2025) – Despite a strong set one victory for the Texas Woman's volleyball team over No. 14 West Texas A&M on Saturday afternoon, the Pioneers fell in four sets.

TWU (9-6, 2-2) won the first set, 25-23, before falling in the next three sets to WT (11-4, 3-1) on the road.

KEY PLAYERS
  • Two Pioneers finished with double digit kills on the day. Myracle Stockman and Tori Woods both recorded 10 kills. Jonaida Donowa finished with nine, while Trinity Blackwood added eight.
  • Kiana Reed dished out the most assists with 24, marking her 11th match with 20 or more assists and seventh straight.  Lorena Gómez finished with 12 assists to match her season high.
  • Alyssa Rojo recorded 20 digs on the day – her second match this season with 20 or more digs. Reed added nine digs across the four sets.
KEY MOMENTS
  • In the first set, the Lady Buffs opened with a 5-2 run. After trailing, TWU would tie the set at 10 off an attack error by WT. The Pioneers went on a 3-0 run, which included kills from Stockman, Woods and Donowa, and found their first lead of the set, 13-11.
  • TWU had an answer for every WT score. They did a great job of limiting the runs of the Lady Buffs and keeping the momentum on their side of the court.
  • The score would be tied twice late in the set at 21 and 22. With the score tied at 22, the Pioneers scored two straight to take command of the set. A kill by Woods brought up set point for TWU, 24-22. WT would score one more, but the Pioneers claimed the set one win off a kill by Woods, 25-23.
  • Despite having the momentum in set one, WT shifted the tide to start set two, as they opened the set with six unanswered points. The Pioneers would struggle to string together runs in set two. A kill by Woods ignited a 3-0 run for TWU to bring the score to 20-12. Late in the set, the Pioneers would stave off the set two loss momentarily with three straight points, 24-15. Nevertheless, WT claimed the set two win, 25-15.
  • The Pioneers started off strong in set three. WT scored the opening point. Then, a kill by Donowa ignited a 5-0 run for TWU to give them the four-point advantage, 5-1. After several long runs by WT, the Pioneers cut it to one, 15-14, off a block by Stockman and Kenn Jean-Louis.
  • Despite getting it close, TWU could not string points together. They allowed WT to score seven straight and win set three, 25-16.
  • Set four also included long runs by the Lady Buffs, as the Pioneers were unable to overcome an early deficit. WT would close the match by winning set four, 25-12.
