NORTON, Mass. (Feb. 19, 2025) – Last weekend, the Texas Woman's artistic swimming team traveled to Wheaton College to compete in the MPSF Conference Championship.
Following two days of competition, including solo, duet, trio, team and technical performances, the Pioneers finished third.
"The MPSF Championship was a great step forward, as we continue to refine our routines for the U.S. Collegiate National Championship," said TWU Head Artistic Swimming Coach
Barb Nesbitt Ng. "Our performance quality and cohesiveness have elevated each competition. The sky is the limit for this group of young athletes."
The Pioneers celebrated two podium finishes in the solo competition.
Maya Schwickert finished in second place, and
Eva Lafontan placed third.
"The greatest takeaway of the weekend was our opportunity to celebrate both soloists on the podium," Coach Nesbitt Ng said. "On our team, when one Pioneer swims, we all channel swimming together, thus allowing us to all share this victory and monumental accomplishment as one team together."
Following the competition, six Pioneers earned All-MPSF honors, marking the most TWU student-athletes honored in program history. The All-MPSF selections are made based on the athletes' performances in the technical events.
Schwickert earned First Team honors, earning the second All-MPSF honors of her career and first First Team honors. Freshmen
Anastasia Bell,
Maya Bell,
Kendyl Egert and
Melanie Tromp earned Second Team honors. They were also joined by sophomore Maria Fernandez-Montenegro Serrano on the All-MPSF Second Team.
"I am incredibly proud of our six Pioneers who were named to the All-MPSF Teams," Coach Nesbitt Ng said. "This recognition is a testament to their dedication, hard work, and the progress they've made throughout the season, and this is only just the beginning!"
The Pioneers will be back in action for their lone home meet of the season on March 2, as TWU hosts Florida, Richmond and UIW for the South Regional competition.
