DENTON, Texas (April 14, 2025) - For the first time this season, the Texas Woman's softball team has earned a Lone Star Conference weekly honor. Freshman pitcher Randi Crawford was named LSC Freshman of the Week for her standout performances in the circle.
The Blossom, Texas, native went 2-1 in four appearances last week against No. 3 UT Tyler, St. Mary's and St. Edward's. Crawford notched five strikeouts in outings against both UT Tyler and St. Mary's, then capped the weekend with a dominant performance in Sunday's opener against St. Edward's. She tossed a complete-game one-hitter, allowing only a seventh-inning single in a 3-0 shutout.
"Randi has been throwing really well and I'm just proud to see the growth from week to week," Head Coach Gay McNutt said.
Crawford (9-6) received the Freshman of the Week award for the first time in her career. She led the Pioneers in the circle, recording two wins in her three starts against St. Mary's and St. Edward's. She came just one hit shy of a no-hitter in game one against SEU on Sunday, giving up the lone hit in the seventh inning. In that game, she threw a complete-game 3-0 shutout, striking out seven while facing 26 batters and throwing 127 pitches, allowing no earned runs across all seven innings.Â
She finished the week with 22 strikeouts, including five each against UTT, STMU, and in 12 total against SEU — and surrendered only four earned runs.  Crawford recorded the 5-3 win in game one vs. STMU. In her 23.1 innings, Crawford gave up only four earned runs and allowed just one extra-base hit: a double among nine total hits.
As the Pioneers prepare for pivotal road matchups this week against Texas A&M International and Texas A&M-Kingsville, Crawford will look to remain a key presence in the circle. TWU aims to build momentum for a postseason run and climb the conference standings in the final stretch of the regular season.
