DENTON, Texas (Jan. 29, 2026) - After months of preparation and reflection, Texas Woman's Softball enters the 2026 season with renewed belief, sharper focus and a clear identity guiding the program forward.

The Pioneers open the year this weekend at the D2 Lone Star Classic in Mansfield, Texas, but the foundation for the season was built long before the first pitch. With a mixed roster of experienced returners and impactful newcomers, TWU's offseason emphasis centered on growth, accountability and the culture needed to sustain success over the course of a competitive season.

Junior Lizzie Smith mentioned that the work went beyond physical development this offseason.

"The main focus this offseason was getting faster and stronger mentally not just physically, and also creating a culture we all can use as a foundation," Smith said. "This team is special and ready to play."

That foundation has shaped the team's approach entering 2026, particularly in how players prepare and compete for one another. Senior Ashley Allinger described a group committed to intention and selflessness, especially on the offensive side of the ball.

"Our main focus for the offseason was to come out competing with a strong offense at our forefront," Allinger said. "Each rep we took was with intention and we took the time to expose ourselves to situations and possibilities so when the time comes we are each individually ready to face it.

As one of the team's veteran leaders, Allinger said leadership has been a personal priority during her final season, both on and off the field, as the team navigates the challenges of conference play and a long spring schedule.

In the circle, sophomore pitcher Randi Crawford enters the season with a different level of confidence after experiencing her first full collegiate campaign.

"I came into the season last year not knowing fully what to expect," Crawford said. "This year I am prepared and that alone will get me further. My goal is to always improve and I can always be better than I am now."

Crawford said consistency has become a major team goal after learning from last season's highs and lows.

"As a team our goal for this season is to come out strong and stay strong," she said. "Being consistent throughout the entire season."

Beyond performance, Crawford pointed to improved chemistry across the roster as one of the most noticeable differences entering 2026.

"From the start, we all immediately clicked with one another and were able to quickly welcome the transfers and freshmen," she said. "Every day I am excited to go into practice, not only to get better, but to also be with the people I am closest with. The vibe and energy with this group is radiating and we are all excited to be here for each other.."

That sense of unity has been embraced by newcomers as well. Freshman pitcher Mya Cherry said the emphasis on togetherness has helped set expectations early.

"The team this year isn't just a team, it's a family," Cherry said. "Everyone has the same goals this year, which allows us to move in the same direction, forward…When people come and watch us play, they are going to see the fun that we have on the field."

Out of that shared belief has emerged the phrase that now defines the program's mindset, "Why Not Us?" Introduced early in the fall, the motto reflects both confidence and accountability as the Pioneers prepare to compete in one of the toughest conferences in Division II.

"We have put in the preparation and practice to get to this point so now it is time to show it," Allinger said. "This conference is hard, including extensive travel days and long games, but every team has the same cards dealt so it really stands to show "Why Not Us?""

As the season begins, the phrase serves more than motivation. It represents a shift in approach and a reminder that belief, preparation and unity must align every day. With culture and confidence driving the program forward, TWU enters 2026 focused on sustaining growth and competing with purpose from start to finish.
