SAN ANGELO, Texas (Jan. 4, 2026) – The Texas Woman's basketball team continued their winning streak on the road in their second contest of 2026.
TWU (11-1, 5-0) traveled to San Angelo, Texas to meet ASU (3-8, 1-4) on Sunday afternoon. Against the Rambelles, the Pioneers claimed their tenth straight win, 71-65, and TWU remained a perfect 7-0 in road contests.
In the win, TWU matched their lowest turnover number of the season at nine. They also forced the Rambelles to turn the ball over 17 times for 20 points.
KEY PLAYERS
- Averee Kleinhans led the Pioneers with 24 points – her second straight game with 20 or more points. She shot 50% from the field and 9-of-11 from the free throw line. She also added two assists, three rebounds and two steals to her stat line.
- Gabby Elliott scored 15 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in the win, as she recorded her fifth double-double of the season and second straight. Eight of her 14 boards were on the offensive end. She also added two blocks in the win.
- Madi Lumsden was the final Pioneer to score in double-digits. She finished her 26 minutes with 10 points, three rebounds, one assist and three steals.
- Jada Celsur grabbed one steal in the win to officially record 156 steals in her career, as she moved into No. 3 in steals on the TWU all-time career list.
- Celsur and Kayla Glover both finished with five rebounds to help lead TWU to 44 total rebounds to edge the Rambelles in that category, 44-35.
PIONEER POWER MOMENTS
- The first quarter was a tight battle to start the day, as both teams scored 14 points in the opening 10 minutes. It set the tone for the remaining three quarters, as the score was tied eight times and the lead changed nine times.
- TWU continued to dominate play in the paint, as they scored 34 points in the paint. They also held ASU to just 12 points in the painted area.
- After the Rambelles jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead to open the game with two three pointers, the Pioneers answered with a 5-0 run to come within one after a jumper by Lumsden with 5:16 on the clock. Just a minute later, Lumsden would connect on an and-one to tie the score at eight each. A layup by Elliott with 3:15 left in the quarter gave TWU their first lead of the afternoon, 10-8. After a Kaylie Morgan jumper with 39 seconds on the clock put TWU ahead, 14-11, ASU answered with a three with just six seconds remaining to close the first quarter 14-14.
- TWU opened the second quarter with four straight points to lead by four, 18-14. The Pioneers would lead by as much as five in the quarter after a three by Glover with 7:15 on the clock.
- Back-and-forth scoring would be the story of the final five minutes of the second quarter, as both teams traded baskets on offense. Trailing by two, Celsur connected on two free throws to tie the score again at 33. Nevertheless, another late second three closed the quarter for the Rambelles, as they took a three-point lead into halftime, 36-33.
- After the halftime break, TWU won the second half, 38-29, to help secure the lead.
- For most of the third quarter, the Pioneers battled back to equalizing the score. They stayed locked in and tied the game at 49 with 1:32 left in the quarter. Then, they locked down on defense and did not allow ASU to score again in the third, as the score was tied heading into the fourth quarter.
- TWU found the lead once again early in the fourth quarter, as Kleinhans connected on an and-one play to put the Pioneers ahead by one, 52-51. TWU would lead by as much as five at the 6:43 mark; nevertheless, in the final five minutes the score would be tied twice. With 2:39 on the clock, Kleinhans connected on a layup to lead by two, 65-63, and the Pioneers would hold onto the lead for the remainder of the game. With four made free throws, TWU would claim the win by six points, 71-65.
- It marked the Pioneers fourth straight win against the Rambelles all-time.

The Pioneers return home for their next conference contest. They will play Sul Ross State on Thursday, Jan. 8 at 6 p.m. in Kitty Magee Arena.
