TWU SET FOR TWO GAME HOME STAND

DENTON, Texas (Jan. 7, 2026) – After opening the New Year on the road, the Texas Woman's basketball team returns home to Kitty Magee Arena for two home Lone Star Conference games.

No. 3 TWU (11-1, 5-0) will meet Sul Ross State (1-10, 0-5) on Thursday, Jan. 8 at 6 p.m. Then, they will host Western New Mexico (0-11, 0-5) on Saturday, Jan. 10 at 2 p.m.

The Pioneers are currently on a 10-game win streak. They have not lost a game since Nov. 8 at home against Harding. TWU is one of three teams still undefeated in LSC action. Along with TWU, West Texas A&M and Eastern New Mexico are both 5-0 in conference play.

HOME SWEET HOME WINNING WAYS IN 2026
  • A LOOK AT HISTORY: The Pioneers met SRSU for the first time last season on the road in Alpine, Texas. TWU claimed the win against the Lobos 89-54. The Pioneers own the all-time record against WNMU, 11-1. They have won four straight against the Mustangs with the lone loss coming in 2020. Last season, TWU met WNMU on the road and won 71-48. They last faced the Mustangs in Denton, Texas on Dec. 7, 2023, and TWU claimed the win 58-36.
  • TWU IN THE LSC: Most recently, the Pioneers were honored with two LSC Player of the Week honors, as Averee Kleinhans was named the LSC Offensive Player of the Week and Gabby Elliott was named the LSC Defensive Player of the Week. In the LSC standings, the Pioneers rank No. 3 in offense, averaging 71.5 points per game. They are second in margin of victory, defeating teams by an average of 15.8 points per game. Additionally, TWU holds teams to 55.8 points per game, which ranks second in the LSC. The Pioneers top the conference leaderboard in team field goal percentage (45.4%) – a mark that also ranks 15th in NCAA Division II. On the defensive side of the ball, the Pioneers hold teams to shooting 36% from the field, which ranks fifth in the LSC. From the three point line, TWU ranks third in the LSC in field goal percentage by shooting 33.2%. They also rank third in team free throw percentage, shooting 73.7% from the charity stripe. The Pioneers rank fourth in turnover margin (five) and assist-to-turnover ratio (0.84), and TWU blocks 3.83 shots per game to rank fifth in the LSC.
  • PIONEER LEADERS: Currently, Kleinhans leads the Pioneers in scoring with 17.2 points per game. Last Friday, in the win over UTPB, Kleinhans scored a career high 29 points. Close behind is Elliott who averages 16 points per game. Elliott is the lone Pioneer to average double-digit rebounds at 11.2 per game, which ranks first in the LSC and 10th in NCAA Division II. Kleinhans leads the Pioneers in assists with 44 total on the season. Jada Celsur leads in steals with 19. Three Pioneers average above 50% from the field: Kayla Glover (55.6%), Julie Kasonga (54.2%) and Elliott (50.9%). Avery McConnell (46.7%) and Madi Lumsden (40%) both lead TWU with 40% or better from beyond the arc. On the defensive side of the ball, Elliott leads the team with 22 blocks on the season.
