DENTON, Texas (Jan. 8, 2026) - The Texas Woman's wrestling team returns to action this weekend in Chadron, Neb., for a full slate of competition at the Chicoine Center, highlighted by three duals on Friday and the Chadron Open on Saturday.
TWU will open Friday's schedule with a dual against Adams State at 2 p.m., followed by Minot State, before closing the day against host Chadron State. The Pioneers will then shift to individual competition on Saturday, Jan. 10, when they compete in the Chadron Open beginning at 10 a.m.
The weekend marks the next test for a Pioneer squad that sits at 2-2 in head-to-head dual competition and continues to show growth early in the 2025–26 season.

A Look Back
TWU enters the weekend coming off a split in their most recent tri-dual on Dec. 2, where the Pioneers went 1-1 against No. 7 Simon Fraser and Schreiner in Kitty Magee Arena. TWU battled Simon Fraser down to the final bout before falling 25-22, then rebounded with a 24-16 win over Schreiner to secure their second dual victory of the season.
Several wrestlers played key roles in the tri-dual, including Brooke Zejda, who went 2–0 on the day with a ranked win over No. 10 Laura Alcantar Soto, and Kitana Leofatato, who delivered a critical victory at 207 pounds to clinch the win against Schreiner.
The Pioneers also enter the weekend with four wrestlers ranked inside the top 20 in the latest The Open Mat NCAA Women's Wrestling individual rankings. Zejda ranks No. 15 at 124 pounds, Maegan Flaherty is 16th at 145, Poorna Babu ranks 20th at 160, and Leofatato sits at No. 9 at 207, highlighting a lineup that continues to establish itself on the national stage.
Friday's duals will feature competitive matchups as TWU looks to improve its dual record, while Saturday's Chadron Open provides valuable individual competition as the Pioneers continue building depth and experience across the lineup.
