PIONEERS RETURN HOME FOR LSC MEETINGS WITH UT TYLER AND LCU

DENTON, Texas (Feb. 4, 2026) – The Texas Woman's basketball team returns home for two Lone Star Conference meetings this week.

No. 3 TWU (18-1, 12-0) will meet UT Tyler (14-7, 10-2) on Thursday, Feb. 5 at 6 p.m. Then, on Saturday, Feb. 7 at 1 p.m., the Pioneers will host No. 20 Lubbock Christian (17-4, 9-3) in Kitty Magee Arena.

The Pioneers are coming off two road wins last week over Eastern New Mexico and No. 6 West Texas A&M. TWU currently has sole possession of No. 1 in the LSC after beating West Texas A&M, who was previously unbeaten in conference action.

Last week, UT Tyler mirrored TWU's road trip opponents. They fell to WT on Thursday, Jan. 29, 70-51. Then, they followed it up with a win over ENMU on Saturday, Jan. 31, 61-47. LCU met Cameron and Midwestern State last week. The Lady Chaps defeated Cameron, 73-47, and Midwestern State, 89-69.

  • On Thursday night, the Pioneers will be celebrating NPHC Night for Black History Month Celebration. The sororities and fraternities on campus will be collecting toiletries before the game for a local shelter. In partnership with Groggy Dog, TWU will also be giving away 250 free t-shirts, so make sure to come early to get your free t-shirt. Also, the first 50 TWU students to arrive at the game will receive a free TWU fan.
  • On Saturday afternoon, TWU students can receive a free t-shirt and fan – first come, first serve.
TRIPLE THREAT
  • HISTORY: The Pioneers are 7-4 all-time against UT Tyler. Last season, they faced the Patriots twice and split the two meetings, claiming the win at home but falling on the road. The two teams last faced each other on Feb. 27, 2025 in KMA, and the Pioneers claimed the win, 71-61, to clinch a share of the LSC Regular Season Title. TWU is 5-1 at home against UT Tyler. TWU is 5-7 all-time against LCU and 2-2 at home. Last season, the two teams met three times, once in the regular season and twice in postseason play. Across the three meeting, the Pioneers won in the regular season, 58-40, and they went 1-1 in the postseason against the Lady Chaps. TWU claimed the win over LCU in overtime to win the LSC Tournament Championship, but the Pioneers fell in the NCAA South Central Regional Final in KMA, 62-54. 
  • LOCKDOWN DEFENSE: In the LSC, TWU currently ranks second in defense, allowing their opponents to score just 57.3 points per game, while the Pioneers average 72.6 points per game. UT Tyler averages 58.8 points per game, and LCU scores 66.2 per game. The Pioneers defense has been a strong point of emphasis this season throughout their wins, as they have focused on limiting scoring runs of their opponents. The Patriots average 16.2 turnovers per game, and the Lady Chaps average 13.3. On the flip side, UT Tyler ranks first in the LSC in defense, holding opponents to 50 points per game, while LCU ranks fifth, allowing opponents to score 59.1 points per game.
  • ELITE SCORING: The Pioneers have been propelled on offense by two seniors: Gabby Elliott and Averee Kleinhans, who have both claimed three LSC Offensive Player of the Week honors this season. Last weekend against WT, Kleinhans led the Pioneers with a career high 38 points. She currently ranks second in the LSC in points per game, averaging 18.3. Elliott ranks fifth in the LSC, as she scores an average of 16.4 points per game. Elliott also ranks No. 1 in rebounding in the LSC and 13th in NCAA Division II with 10.8 rebounds per game. Both Pioneers are scoring at an efficient clip, as Elliott averages 53.7% from the field (fourth in the LSC), and Kleinhans shoots 46.4% from the field (ninth in the LSC).
