DENTON, Texas (March 5, 2026) - The Texas Woman's softball team (6-10, 4-4) is back on the road this week with matchups against the UT Permian Basin Falcons (9-8, 2-6) on Friday at 2 p.m. and the No. 7-ranked Angelo State Rambelles (19-4, 8-0) on Sunday, with game one starting at 1 p.m.
The Pioneers split a two game doubleheader at home last week against St. Mary's, securing their second shutout of the season in game one with a 3-0 win before falling in a high scoring 16-10 game two, snapping a three game winning streak.
This weekend marks the 31st and 32nd meetings between TWU and UTPB, and the 81st and 82nd matchups against Angelo State. The Pioneers hold an eight game winning streak over the Falcons, including a sweep in Odessa last year. ASU dominates the all-time series against TWU, but the Pioneers have won three of the last five meetings. After dropping one at home in their last outing at Dianne Baker Field, Head Coach Gay McNutt and her team aim to get back on track and deliver strong performances on the road.

A LOOK AT THE FALCONS: UT Permian Basin sits 13th in the LSC standings and enters the weekend on a three-game losing streak. The Falcons are struggling in conference play at 2-6 but will look to bounce back against the Pioneers. Their last win came Feb. 27 against Texas A&M-Kingsville, splitting that series at UTPB Soccer Park. Falcons ace pitcher Cantrell Jessica leads the LSC in ERA with a 1.77 mark in nine games and seven starts, posting a 5-2 record in 55 innings. She also ranks second in opponent batting average and third in strikeouts with 60. The sophomore from Elgin, Texas, hopes to continue her strong season at home against TWU.

A LOOK AT THE RAMBELLES: Angelo State sits atop the LSC standings, entering the weekend on an eight-game winning streak. They are 8-0 in conference play after dropping their last two pre-conference games to Rollins College. Last weekend, the Rambelles completed a 4-0 home sweep against International and Texas A&M-Kingsville. Statistically, ASU ranks top three in multiple categories: first in pitching (2.69 team ERA), second in batting (.352 team average), and third in fielding percentage. Freshman infielder Zoey Sifuentes leads the team offensively, batting .493 with 33 hits, 31 RBIs, five home runs, and 20 runs in 67 at-bats. A LOOK AT THE PIONEERS: TWU sits 10th in the LSC standings, tied with St. Edward's at 4-4 in league play. After a 2-6 nonconference start, the Pioneers have experienced ups and downs in both home and road games, including losses to LSC opponents.Offensively, TWU has shown depth, with at least eight players hitting home runs. Marissa Espinoza leads the team at the plate, tied with Tamia Cherry for most at-bats, batting .392 with a 1.045 OPS, 21 hits, 12 runs, and nine RBIs. Defensively, sophomore catcher Trinity Perry ranks second in the conference in fielding percentage with 81 putouts. Consistency remains the biggest challenge, but TWU has proven it can compete with teams in the division. Coach McNutt hopes to start strong against the Falcons and build momentum heading into the matchup with No. 7 ASU.
The Pioneers will take on UTPB at 2 and 4 p.m. on Friday in Odessa, Texas, before heading to San Angelo for games against ASU at 1 and 3 p.m. on Sunday.
