DENTON, Texas (April 23, 2026) - For the first time since 2017, the Texas Woman's softball team was included on the NCAA South Central Regional Rankings.
In the first week of the NCAA South Central Regional Rankings, listed in alphabetical order, the Pioneers were listed as one of the top 10 teams.
The top 10 teams in the South Central Region, which includes the Lone Star Conference and Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, will be ranked weekly until the final Selection Show for the NCAA Tournament on Monday, May 4 at 9 a.m.
The top eight teams in the region will advance to the 2026 NCAA South Central Regional Tournament, which will take place at the No. 1 seed in the region on May 18-June 3.
Of the 10 teams under consideration on the first ranking, eight teams were from the LSC; Angelo State, Lubbock Christian, Oklahoma Chrsitian, St. Mary's, Texas A&M-Kingsville, UT Tyler, West Texas A&M and TWU. The two remaining teams were from the RMAC, Colorado Chrsitian and CSU Pueblo.
TWU (24-24, 18-16) have six more games to play in the regular season as they will meet UT Dallas on Sunday in Richardson, Texas. Then, they will close out their regular season slate at home against Texas A&M International and Kingsville on May 1 and May 3.
TWU currently sits in eighth in the Lone Star Conference and ranks sixth in the LSC in pitching, and seventh in fielding.
"Being ranked in the South Central Region is huge for our program," head coach Gay McNutt said. "It means that we are headed in the right direction with our program and good things are on the horizon. I look forward to this team finishing strong.
