DENTON, Texas (July 24, 2026) - This past weekend, Hundreds of athletes converged on the campus of Texas Woman's University on Sunday for the 19th annual Pioneer Power Sprint Triathlon and 5K, hosted by the TWU Soccer program and produced by Dallas Athletes Racing.
The event featured 241 finishers in the sprint triathlon and 207 participants in the accompanying 5K Run/Walk, while competitors also took part in the Clydesdale, Athena, relay and team divisions throughout the morning.
"We're incredibly thankful for the overwhelming support of the Pioneer Power Sprint & 5K," TWU Head Soccer Coach Babak Abouzar said. "The success of this event is a testament to the generosity of our community, and the funds raised will make a meaningful difference in the experience we can provide our student-athletes. We can't wait to build on this tradition in the years ahead."
Participants competed individually and in relay and team divisions. In the team competition, all three members completed each leg of the triathlon with their combined times determining the final standings, while relay teams divided the swim, bike and run among teammates.
Nicholas Catullo posted the fastest overall time of the day, completing the sprint triathlon in 49:59.4. Alexander Findlay finished second in 52:09.8, followed by David Carter in third with a time of 52:27.8.
Bill Tommaney claimed the Clydesdale division title in 1:18:31.5, while Aubrey Rae won the Athena division after finishing in 1:17:11.3.
The 5K Run/Walk saw another strong turnout, with Myles Richter capturing the overall title in 18:30.8. Andrew Deluna placed second in 20:39.9, while Stephen Hurt rounded out the top three with a time of 21:02.7.
In the relay competition, Brandi Rabalais recorded the top coed relay time of 1:02:12.7, while Kurt Staller won the men's relay division in 1:01:19.3. In the team division, Two Tanks and a Tamale claimed the championship with a combined time of 3:42:23.5.
Top-three finishers in the age group divisions were also recognized throughout the event.
The Pioneer Power Sprint Triathlon and 5K serves as a fundraiser for the TWU Soccer program, with proceeds directly benefiting the student-athlete experience. Dallas Athletes Racing once again partnered with TWU Soccer to produce the annual event.
Coach Abouzar and the Pioneers will open the 2026 season next month before returning to Pioneer Soccer Park for their home opener on Sept. 5 at Pioneer Soccer Park.
