DENTON, Texas (Sept. 5, 2026) - Texas Woman's soccer closed out their nonconference schedule with a 1-0 victory over Colorado Mesa to improve to four wins on the year.
The Pioneers (4-0) now have two straight wins over the Mavericks (0-2) in the great big state and lead the all-time series 5-2 after Saturday's third shutout of the season.
Concepcion Maya found the back of the net for the second straight game to put the Pioneers on top in their home opener as she led all Pioneers in shots with four of the nine and three shots on goal.

TWU created the first dangerous chances of the match, with Maya forcing two saves from the Colorado Mesa goalkeeper in the opening 25 minutes.

22': Graves came up with a key save in the 22nd minute, stopping Colorado Mesa from inside the box and helping keep the match scoreless.

The Pioneers continued to pressure the Mavericks throughout the first half, putting four shots on goal and earning two corner kicks while keeping Colorado Mesa off the scoreboard.

71': TWU broke through in the 71st minute when Maya scored her second goal of the season, finishing a chance created by Araiza to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead.

The Pioneers' defense protected the lead through the final 20 minutes, limiting Colorado Mesa to just one shot on goal for the match as TWU secured the 1-0 shutout victory.

"We were tested today and I'm proud of our team and how they played against a very good Mesa team," Abouzar said. "We were put under some pressure, this is what happens when you play against one of the top teams in the RMAC. Mesa came out and were energized the first 10 minutes of the game. After we weathered the storm and played our game we were able to dictate some things. We knew the mid field battle was going to be a key to the game and it definitely was. We had some players step up which was great to see as a coach. Love to see how Nadia came in and contributed with the assist that Concepcion was able to finish with great composure. Our backline along with our goalkeeper did a great job in leading the team to a clean sheet. We will enjoy this and rest up for our conference opener on Wednesday."
