DENTON, Texas (Dec. 7) – The TWU gymnastics team presented its annual Holiday Spectacular Sunday afternoon in front of 567 enthusiastic fans at Kitty Magee Arena.
"We had a fantastic crowd today and I am so excited about it," said TWU head coach
Lisa Bowerman. "We have great support from our TWU community, our TWU alumni, and local Denton fans and it was so nice to see them out here today."
Nearly the entire squad took part in the intrasquad meet, which was split into to two teams, Red and Green. Six returning gymnasts –
Courtney Cochefski,
Kayla Jones,
Spencer Jones,
Madison Kremer,
Stephanie Repp and
Katie Simpson - had the opportunity to show off their skills for the first time since the 2014 season ended, while six freshmen –
Schyler Jones,
Brandi Lazarus,
Mallory Moredock,
Madison Nettles,
Abigail Versemann and
Taylor Vincent – made their collegiate debuts.
Schyler Jones,
Spencer Jones, Lazarus, Moredock, Repp and Simpson competed on all four events.
"Overall, I am very pleased with our performance," Bowerman said. "We didn't put all our skills out there today because we just want just want to build their confidence and save their bodies. The freshmen that competed didn't look like freshmen for the most part. They performed well which was nice to see."
The Pioneers will begin their 2015 regular season on Saturday, January 10, when they travel to Shreveport, LA, to face Centenary in a dual meet. TWU will host its first home meet on Sunday, Jan. 25 against NC State at 1:00 p.m. in Kitty Magee Arena.
