PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (Apr. 12) – TWU senior gymnast
Kayla Jones shared the floor title while senior
Courtney Cochefski and freshman
Madison Nettles finished second on bars and vault respectively on Sunday afternoon at the 2015 USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championships Individual Event Finals.
Jones tied her career-high of 9.900 on floor and finished in a three-way tie for first on the event with Sasha Tsikhanovich and Caitlin Perry from Bridgeport.
Nettles was the first competitor for TWU and the only Pioneers' competitor on vault. She scored a 9.8250 and tied for second with Air Force's Jessica Wallander. Lindenwood's Kierstin Sokolowski won the event title on vault with a 9.8375.
Freshman
Alyssa Kelly was first up on beam for the Pioneers. She fell halfway through her performance and scored a 9.200 to finish 10th. TWU senior
Stephanie Repp followed Kelly and scored a 9.500 in her final collegiate performance to finish eighth on the event. Seattle Pacific's Maria Hundley won the beam title for the second consecutive year with a 9.900.
Kayla Jones was the next competitor for TWU on floor. She left everything out there in her final collegiate performance to grab a piece of the top spot on the awards stand. Cochefski followed with her final performance on bars and scored a 9.825 to finish second. Kelly was up next on bars and scored a 9.700 to tie for seventh. Hundley from Seattle Pacific won her second title of the afternoon with a 9.875 on bars.
Spencer Jones was the final competitor of the 2015 USA Gymnastics National Championships. She scored a 9.800 on floor in her final collegiate performance and tied for fourth overall on the event.
"Coming in to today the six of us were very excited to get another chance to compete," said
Kayla Jones. "We wanted to come out and represent TWU gymnastics to the best of our abilities. It was exciting to have a huge fan base behind us. It was also very emotional since this was my final performance. I am thankful to have the talent and ability to win the gold medal. It has been one heck of a ride and I loved every second of it."
