ST. CHARLES, Mo. (Apr. 10) – The third and final day of the 2016 USA Gymnastics National Championships was an exciting one for TWU. Sophomore
Schyler Jones and freshmen
Erin Alderman,
Jenna Cashmore and
Megan Gentry all finished with solid performances to conclude the season.
Jones and Gentry both competed on beam and is the only event with two Pioneers.
Jones was the first competitor of the day for TWU and she scored a 9.800 before watching Gentry match her with a 9.800 of her own. Both finished tied for sixth with Regan Butcheness from Brown and Majesta Valentie for West Cherster. Yale's Jessica Wang captured the title.
Prior to her beam routine, Gentry competed on vault and scored a 9.775. She finished tied for eighth with Jamie Lewis from Air Force. Seattle Pacific's Maria Hundley won the vault title.
Cashmore was the final competitor on bars and she scored a 9.800. She tied for fourth overall with Bridgeport's Maritza Futch and Yale's Jessica Wang. Bridgeport's Christine Liautaud won the bars title.
Alderman was the final competitor of the day and National Championships on floor and she scored a 9.825. She also finished tied for eighth with Ajiea Hargrave of Bridgeport and Nicole Pruchnik of Southern Connecticut. Randi Cutolo from Bridgeport and Ariana Harger from Seattle Pacific both tied for first on the event.
All-around champions, determined from team semifinals from Friday, were also announced and Jones took home the silver with a 39.200. She tied with Ashley White of Centenary while Seattle Paicific's Hundley won the title.
"It was an honor to represent TWU along with Erin, Megan and Jenna at the event finals," said Jones. "We all did great and hit our routines which is what we all wanted to do. Finishing second as an all-arounder was great. I just wanted to go out there and do my job and it paid off."
