Soccer begins season with 2-0 win over CSU-Pueblo
PUEBLO, Colo. (Sept. 1, 2016) – Four Pioneers combined for two goals and a pair of assists to guide Texas Woman's University to a 2-0 victory over Colorado State-Pueblo in the 2016 season opener Thursday night at Gonzales Soccer Stadium.

Blaine Cathey and
Chelsea Martin each recorded their first goals while donning a TWU jersey, and
Maddi Nolton and
Lucero Chavez tallied assists for the first time in their Pioneer careers. TWU (1-0-0) was outshot by CSUP (0-1-0) 13-10, but registered two more shots on goal while each keeper had three saves.

The Pioneers tallied the first shot of the evening on a
Pressley Bailey attempt that sailed wide 11 minutes into the contest before CSUP's Hannah Andersen placed two tries over the crossbar in a span of 30 seconds.

The Thunderwolves' Alison Darr stopped
Nancy Chavez and Martin midway through the first half while CSUP kicked two shots wide and another pair high with 10 minutes remaining before the break.
Samantha Jimenez then denied the Thunderwolves at the goal to keep both teams scoreless at the end of the first.

Two minutes into the second half, Nolton connected with Cathey for the first goal of the 2016 campaign. CSUP attempted to neutralize, but the Pioneers blocked two attempts while Jimenez saved another at the 70th minute. With nine minutes remaining, Martin added another score on a flick pass by Chavez.

TWU Soccer Picked Third in LSC Preseason Poll
DENTON, Texas (Aug. 18, 2016) – After a record-setting 2015 campaign, TWU Soccer has been picked to finish third in the Lone Star Conference (LSC) Preseason Poll as voted on by the league's head coaches, sports information directors and various media representatives throughout the region.

The Pioneers garnered 77 votes, finishing behind defending LSC Tournament Champion Texas A&M-Commerce which just edged out LSC regular season winner Angelo State, 115 votes to 112, respectively. In just his third year as head coach,
Babak Abouzar led the Pioneers to a school-record 11 victories and a berth in the conference tournament for the fifth time in program history. The Pioneers knocked off Eastern New Mexico, 1-0, before falling to eventual champion TAMU-Commerce.

Megan Coppedge lead a roster that features 12 returners and 13 newcomers on the 2016 squad.

Early Six-Game Homestand Highlights TWU Soccer Schedule
DENTON, Texas (June 10, 2016) – A trip to Mile-High City to start the season followed by a six-game homestand highlight the 2016 TWU soccer schedule. The Pioneers will play a total of 18 regular season games including 10 at home and eight on the road.

TWU will travel to Colorado to start the season on Thursday, Sept. 1. The Pioneers will play their season opener at Colorado State-Pueblo on Thursday and then take on Regis on Saturday, Sept. 3 in Denver, CO.
 TWU then returns to Denton to host a six-game homestand from Sept. 10-28. The Pioneers' home opener is schedule for Saturday, Sept. 10 against Dallas Baptist, who advanced to the Elite Eight in 2015.

TWU opens the Lone Star Conference scheduled against West Texas A&M at home on Sept. 23. The Pioneers will play home-and-home with the six LSC teams (Angelo State, Eastern New Mexico, Midwestern State, Texas A&M-Commerce, UT Permian Basin and West Texas A&M) during the season.
TWU's remaining non-conference games are against East Central, Oklahoma Baptist and Lubbock Christian. All three games are played at TWU Soccer Field. Angelo State and Texas A&M-Commerce also advanced to the 2015 NCAA Tournament.

The top six teams in the final conference standings will earn a berth in the 2016 LSC Women's Soccer championship. The tournament will be played at the top seed on Nov. 3-6.
