About the Pioneers
To open the 2017 season, TWU pulled off the largest upset in program history Friday with a 1-0 win over Colorado School of Mines. On Sunday, the Pioneers and Regis went into double overtime for a 0-0 tie to give TWU an undefeated opening weekend. The Pioneers earned a 20th-place ranking during Week One from the United Soccer Coaches Poll, and freshman goalkeeper Maddie Vickroy was named the Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

Heartland Conference member DBU began the season with a loss to MSU Denver, a win against UC-Colorado Springs and a defeat at No. 6 St. Edward's to sit at 1-2 overall.

DENTON, Texas (Sept. 3, 2017) - Texas Woman's University and Regis played 110 minutes Sunday night on TWU Soccer Field with each leaving by way of a tie in double overtime to leave the Pioneers without a loss during opening weekend against two of the top teams in the region in RU and No. 6 Colorado School of Mines.
TWU (1-0-1) registered 10 shots on the evening compared to 15 by the Rangers (0-1-1). The Pioneers tallied three shots on goal, while Regis accumulated five. Chelsea Martin lead the offensive charge with five shots, three on goal, while Maddie Vickroy tallied another shutout that included five saves.
 
Vickroy named LSC Defensive Player of the Week
RICHARDSON, Texas (Sept. 6, 2017) - Maddie Vickroy of Texas Woman's University was tabbed as the first Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week in 2017, as announced by the league office Wednesday.
Vickroy, a freshman goalkeeper, tallied two shutouts on opening weekend in her Pioneer debut. The McKinney Boyd High School product made a pair of saves in a 1-0 victory against sixth-ranked Colorado School of Mines Friday and followed up that performance with five saves against Regis while playing all 110 minutes in the double overtime tie, including two crucial stops in the final minute against the Rangers.
Following last week's performances, Vickroy is tied for tops in the league in save percentage (1.000), shutouts (2), goals against average (.000), and is third in saves (7).
Vickroy's accolade marks the third year in a row a Pioneer has been chosen as the season's first LSC Defensive Player of the Week. Ariana Morrison was selected during Week One during the 2015 season, and Samantha Jimenez earned the same honor last year.
