Preview: Pioneers vs. Eastern New Mexico and Western New Mexico

DENTON, Texas (Feb. 1, 2018) - Texas Woman's University hosts Eastern New Mexico Thursday for a 7 p.m. contest and then Western New Mexico Saturday for a 2 p.m. game.
 
About the Pioneers
TWU picked up a crucial win last week versus UT Permian to keep a hold on the eighth and final spot in the Lone Star Conference tournament. TWU currently sits one game ahead of UTPB and two games behind Cameron. Senior forward Alexis Nezianya leads the team with averages of 11.8 points and 8.9 boards to rank 13th in the Lone Star Conference in scoring and fourth in rebounding, as well as being tops in field goal percentage at .455 and fourth in blocks per game with 1.5. Junior guard Bri'anna Gray averages 10.1 points, while senior forward Whitney Apari totals 9.2 ppg. Junior guard KJ Stastny averages 8.8 points and is ranked 10th in the league in three-pointers made per contest with 1.5.

The Greyhounds had a four-game win streak snapped by Western New Mexico Tuesday to give the Mustangs their first win on the season. Mikaehla Connor leads EMNU with 10.9 points per game, Daeshi McCants posts 9.4 points and a team-high 7.3 rebounds, while Brandi Gomez adds 8.5 ppg.
 
History between TWU and ENMU
The Pioneers and Greyhounds have quite an extensive history that dates to the 1989-90 season and includes 55 total contests in which ENMU holds a 33-22 edge. Eastern has taken wins in the three most recent meetings, but the Pioneers had won the previous six contests over the Greyhounds.

The Mustangs snapped a 23-game losing streak dating to last season with a 60-59 win against Eastern New Mexico Tuesday. Ciara Fields averages a team-best 13.8 points, and Takiyah Lopez adds 8.5.
