SILVER CITY, New Mexico (Feb. 2, 2019) — Texas Woman's rode the hot hands of
KJ Stastny and
Macy Wilkerson to a 76-58 victory over Western New Mexico on Saturday.
"I was impressed with our ability to control the tempo, lock in defensively and get high percentage shots," head coach Beth Jillson said. "Especially down the stretch."
Stastny finished the game with 23 points and five rebounds while Wilkerson notched a career-high 28 points and four rebounds. The duo would also combine for eight of the Pioneers' nine three-point field goals.
"Macy and KJ had huge performances," Jillson said. "They knocked down open looks, were aggressive off the bounce and handled the pressure."
After a closely contested first three quarters, the Pioneers erupted in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Mustangs 25-12.
Carissa Moody added eight points of her own while
London Archer and
Ma'K'La Woods each posted six points apiece.
On Thursday, the Pioneer return home to host Texas A&M-Kingsville at 7 p.m.
"These are two crucial wins for us on the road," Jillson added. "We are so excited to be back in KMA for the back half of conference play."
