DENTON — Texas Woman's Soccer has announced its schedule for the upcoming 2019 season.
"This upcoming fall season is a real competitive one," head coach
Babak Abouzar said. "I am excited about it."
Entering his seventh season at the helm, Abouzar and the Pioneers will open the season at home against East Central on Sept. 8 at 7 p.m. Four nights later, they will host Rogers State at Pioneer Soccer Park at 5 p.m. before heading on the road.
Their first road trip will feature three non-conference opponents that qualified for the NCAA Tournament last season, beginning with a visit to Oklahoma Baptist on Sept. 14 at 2 p.m.
"These games will get us battle tested early on in preparation for the newly shaped Lone Star Conference," Abouzar added.
On Sept. 19, they will travel to Western Washington to face the Vikings before taking on Concordia (Oregon) two days later before returning home for conference play.
In a rematch of last season's thrilling postseason matchup, the Pioneers will host MSU Texas in the conference opener on Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. Two days later, they welcome conference newcomer, Oklahoma Christian, to wrap up the two-match homestand.
"Our conference has always been competitive," Abouzar said. "Adding the schools from the Heartland Conference will pose different demands for our team."
The final homestand of the season will feature two LSC additions, beginning with last season's Heartland Conference Tournament Champion, DBU, on Oct. 26 at 7 p.m.
After hosting Angelo State on Halloween night, the Pioneers will wrap up the home regular season schedule against last year's Heartland regular season champion, St. Edward's.
In 2018, the Pioneers posted 11 wins for the second time in six seasons, advancing to the LSC Championship semifinals.
