TAMARINDO, Costa Rica — On Tuesday, Texas Woman's Volleyball began its week-long expedition in Costa Rica that will include four exhibition matches.
"The opportunity our student-athletes have in front of them is a culmination of a lot of work, consistency and dedication to our program," head coach
Jeff Huebner said. "As a coach, I am thrilled at the once-in-a-lifetime experience we are about to embark on, because this trip is truly an extension of our university's mission."
While on the tour of the country, the Pioneers will also spend time volunteering at Casa de Hogar, an empowerment program for people with disabilities, in the city of San Jose and planting endangered species of trees as part of a reforestation project near the Arenal Volcano.
"I am looking forward to our players representing TWU at the highest level in competition," Huebner added. "But, also as we travel and discover all the world has to offer."
TWU's first match will be at 5 p.m. against UNA Universidad Nacional on Wednesday before taking on the San Jose Club Team on Thursday. Then on Friday, they will then travel to La Fortuna for a match against the San Carlos Club team before returning to San Jose for their final match on Aug. 12 against the San Jose Club Team.
"The (TWU) Division of Student Life is committed to engaging our students in five areas: Learn, Lead, Serve, Discover and Invest," Huebner stated. "These areas will all be hit on in spades during our travel."
