DENTON, Texas – While the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic may have caused wholesale changes to virtually all facets of life for Texas Woman's University student-athletes, the Pioneers continued to excel in their academic pursuits in the fall 2020 semester. 119 TWU student-athletes combined to post a 3.329 semester grade point average, with 52 of TWU's student-athletes posting a perfect 4.0 grade point average – 46 percent of TWU student-athletes. Those 52 student-athletes were named to the Chancellor's List, while another 28 TWU student-athletes were named to the Dean's List, an honor awarded to students who have achieved at least a 3.5 GPA.
 
"There has been nothing normal about 2020, but I'm so proud of the effort, fortitude and resiliency of our student-athletes to do what is expected during a time of unexpected challenges," said Charolette Hunt, Assistant Director of Athletics for Compliance and Academic Services/Senior Woman Administrator. "I also applaud our faculty, academic advisors and coaches for encouraging and supporting our athletes in their academic pursuits. The streak continues!" 
 
The accomplishment marks the 77^th consecutive semester with a 3.0 departmental grade point average or higher – a streak that dates back to 1982.
 
When the Pioneers' streak began – the price of a postage stamp was 20 cents, the price of a loaf of bread was 60 cents, the price of a gallon of milk was $1.79, the price of a gallon of gas was $1.19, the price of a new car was $5,967.00, the average income was $11,894.00, and the No. 1 movie in the country was "E.T."
 
Each of TWU's active teams posted a 3.2 grade point average or higher, with volleyball posting a department-best team grade point average of 3.927 in the fall. 12 of 17 volleyball student-athletes posted perfect 4.0 GPAs, representing just under 71 percent of the team.
