AUSTIN, Texas - Texas Woman's University gymnasts
Isabel Goyco and
Alix Pierce have been named to 2020-21 Academic All-America Division II Women's At-Large Teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Goyco was a second-team honoree while Pierce earned a third-team nod.
The duo become the 12th and 13th selections from TWU gymnastics, and the 31st and 32nd Academic All-America honorees in the history of TWU athletics. Goyco and Pierce are the first Academic All-America selections from the Pioneers gymnastics program since 2018.
Goyco, a native of San Antonio, Texas, boasts a 3.92 grade point average and is majoring in biology. Goyco was a First Team USAG All-American on floor and a Second Team USAG All-American on beam, while also earning a First Team All-America selection from the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association on floor. The junior captured USAG national champion honors on floor, tying her career high with a 9.925 in the event. Goyco earlier qualified for the NCAA regionals on floor, competing alongside Georgia at the Athens regional, where she scored a 9.850.
Pierce joined the TWU gymnastics program as a transfer from Seattle Pacific. A native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Pierce has a 4.00 grade point average and is a sociology major. Pierce collected a pair of First Team USAG All-America honors, earning the award both on beam and floor. The junior closed her season with career highs both on beam and floor at the USAG National Championships, posting a 9.825 on beam and a 9.850 on floor.
