Box Score ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Texas Woman's University soccer team (0-0-1) opened its 2021 season with a 0-0 double-overtime tie against Ouachita Baptist (0-0-1) on Tuesday at Kluck Family Field.
"We played well enough to win today, just couldn't finish in front of the goal," said head coach
Babak Abouzar. "We need to be more composed in front of the goal and execute our opportunities. Our back line and goalkeeper played really well today and didn't give Ouachita much space. We'll rest and regroup tomorrow for a tough game against Harding on Saturday."
The Pioneers applied offensive pressure early, firing six shots - four on goal - in the first half. TWU's first opportunity came at the 13:51 mark when
Kaylee Smith fired a shot bottom center, but OBU's Michele Snow made the stop. TWU followed with opportunities in the 23rd, 30th, and 33rd minutes, but Snow managed to keep the Pioneers off the board.
On the defensive end, TWU's stifling defense prevented OBU from taking shot until the 69th minute of the contest, and the Tigers' first shot on goal came in the 84th minute, but
Alex Jacinto made the stop. It was OBU's lone shot on goal in the contest.
TWU held a 7-2 advantage in shots, and a 5-1 advantage in shots on goal, while TWU had five corner kicks to OBU's one.
The Pioneers conclude their road swing on Saturday, Sept. 4 with an 11 a.m. match against Harding University at the Stevens Soccer Complex in Searcy, Ark.
