TYLER, Texas (Jan. 31, 2022) – After a three game homestand, the Texas Woman's University basketball team will go on the road today to play the University of Texas – Tyler in Lone Star Conference action.

The Pioneers were originally scheduled to play UT – Tyler on December 31, 2021, but the game was postponed.

TWU (12-5, 5-1 LSC) went undefeated against conference opponents last week, defeating Cameron University 65-61 and West Texas A&M University 61-50.

UT-Tyler (13-4, 6-2) also went 2-0 in LSC action last week. They beat Texas A&M International University 81-43 and the Texas A&M University – Kingsville 70-63.

The Pioneers and Patriots will meet for the second time this season tonight in Tyler, Texas at 5 p.m.

TRIPLE THREAT
  • WE MEET AGAIN: The Pioneers and Patriots already played one time this season in a nonconference game on December 20 in Denton. In that game, the Pioneers only had seven available players and they defeated the Patriots 61-49.
  • KEY PIONEERS: The last time these two teams met, TWU had four players score in double digits to lead them to victory—Ashley Ingram, Brielle Woods, Sadie Moyer and Keslyn King all scored 10 or more points in the win. Tonight, look for each of these players to make a big impact.
  • DEFENSE, DEFENSE, DEFENSE: Although we harp on it in every article, TWU's strongest advantage is their ability to disrupt the flow of their opponent's. Through deflections and pressure, the Pioneers can limit the scoring of their opponent. Last week, they held Cameron to just seven points in one quarter. They also held West Texas A&M to eight points in one quarter and only 50 points total. Their defense will be key against the Patriots who are averaging 68 points per game and 46.7% from the field.
