DENTON, Texas - The Texas Woman's University gymnastics team will open its 2022 season tonight in a quad meet hosted by No. 2 Florida at the Exactech Arena at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center. The meet is slated for a 6:45 p.m. ET  5:45 p.m. CT start.

MEET THE PIONEERS

• TWU returns an experienced squad for the 2022 season. Two seniors - Paige Stuyniski and Bridgette Peterson - graduated after the 2021 campaign. The Pioneers' entire lineup from the MIC Championships and USAG Championships returns, and with the addition of six talented newcomers, head coach Lisa Bowerman starts the season with one of her deepest squads to date. 
• Returners Madeline Gose and Isabel Goyco won individual USAG national titles, with Goyco claiming her crown on the floor and Gose winning on the vault. Goyco set a new career-high mark of 9.925 in the event, while Gose's 9.8625 was also a career high in the event. 
• Five Pioneers qualified for the USAG Championship finals last season - Gose, Goyco, Maddie Griffith, Mara Johnson, and Steelie King. Gose qualified in vault (1st-9.8625), beam (T2nd-9.8500), and floor (T2nd, 9.8750); while Goyco was the overall winner on floor (1st-9.925). Mara Johnson earned a spot in the vault final (T5th-9.725), King earned a spot on beam (T5th, 9.825) and Griffith was a national runner-up on bars (2nd-9.8625). 
• Goyco also earned a place on floor in NCAA Regional competition, qualifying for the Athens Regional 2. Goyco tied for 23rd in the regional with a 9.825.
