DENTON, Texas (Oct. 24, 2022) - Texas Woman's wrestling releases their inaugural 2022-23 schedule.
Â
TWU has many firsts, and this year is no exception. On April 22, 2021, TWU announced the launch of the first intercollegiate wrestling program at Texas Woman's.Â
Â
Leading the Pioneers into their inaugural season is TWU head coach and former Olympian,
Randi Miller. Miller exemplifies the qualities of a true pioneer woman and is excited for what the season will bring.Â
Â
With it being the first season, Miller said a strong foundation is important for success. Â
Â
"Ultimately, for this year, we wanted to build a good culture and good base for long term success," Miller said. "I strive for great results, but with it being our first season and having a freshman heavy recruiting class, I did not want our focus to be outcome based."Â
Â
To kickoff their inaugural season, the Pioneers will be hosting their first intersquad meet on Halloween night, Monday, Oct. 31 at 8 p.m. in Kitty Magee Arena. The meet will mark the Pioneers first introduction to the Denton community, so they hope for a great turn out.Â
Â
At the meet, TWU wrestling will also be hosting a costume contest. Be sure to dress to impress. This event is free and open to everyone.Â
Â
Following their inaugural intersquad opener, the Pioneers will jump into their season with a road meet against Colorado Mesa in Grand Junction, Colorado on Saturday, Nov. 5.
Â
The Pioneers are set to host five home meets in their first season, beginning Thursday, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. against Texas Wesleyan in KMA.
Â
On Friday, Nov. 18 through Saturday, Nov. 19, the Pioneers will be on the road for their first tournament of the season, the Missouri Valley Open in Marshall, Missouri.Â
Â
"Because of where we're located in our region and being an NCAA school, we had to play with the schedule," Miller said."We wanted to play teams within our region but also compete against top programs in the local area."Â Â
Â
After being on the road, TWU will return home on Saturday, Dec. 3 against Colorado Mesa.Â
Â
Then, after the new year, the Pioneers will head to Hastings, Nebraska for a dual meet on Saturday, Jan. 7, followed by the Bronco Open on Sunday, Jan. 8.Â
Â
On Saturday, Jan. 21, the Pioneers will host a tri meet in KMA against Schreiner University, Texas Wesleyan and University of the Ozarks. Their last home meet of the season will take place on Monday, Jan 23 at 6 p.m. against Oklahoma City University.
Â
TWU will only be an hour away at Texas Wesleyan in Fort Worth, Texas on Wednesday, Jan. 25 at 6 p.m.Â
Â
On Saturday, Jan. 28, the Pioneers will be in Oklahoma City competing in the Oklahoma City Open, hosted by Oklahoma City University. Â
Â
As the inaugural season comes to a close, the Pioneers will finish their season in Grand Junction, Colorado at the Southwest Regional Tournament on Sunday, Feb. 19.Â
Â
The qualifying Pioneers will be competing in the Women's NCAA Wrestling Nationals in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on Saturday, March 4 - 5, followed by UWW Women's Nationals in Fort Worth, Texas, Senior Nationals and World Team Trials. Dates and times are to be announced.Â
