MORGANTOWN, W. Va. -
Emerson Adams turned in a career-high performance with a 9.850 on the vault, while
Emily Six matched her career-high with a 9.725 on beam, as the Texas Woman's University gymnastics team cleared the 194 point plateau for the second consecutive meet, turning in a third-place finish in a tri-meet at West Virginia.
Host West Virginia scored 195.850 to capture the team title, while Pittsburgh was second with a 194.575, barely edging the Pioneers' 194.500
"I am extremely proud of our team tonight," said head coach
Lisa Bowerman. "We came into this meet with a goal of continuing the momentum from Sunday's meet, and i really feel they accomplished that. This team is really building confidence and getting closer to our true potential."
Adams' career-high mark gave the freshman a first-place finish on vault, while
Daisy Woodring tied for third with a 9.825.
Madeline Gose and
Mara Johnson tied for tenth with matching 9.775s.
Sierra Muns added a 9.700 as the Pioneers scored a 48.925 in the event.
Six's career-high mark turned in a 12th-place finish in the event that saw
Madeline Gose capture the beam crown with a 9.875.
Steelie King tied for fourth with a 9.825,
Kyla Podges was tied for sixth with her 9.800, and Mackenzie Kunzman's 9.750 was good for a tenth-place tie. The Pioneers scored their highest rotation score in beam with a 48.975.
Gose captured her second event crown of the evening with a 9.875 on floor, while
Isabel Goyco hit a 9.825 to tie for fifth.
Mara Johnson (9.775, T-11th) and
Domi Bonzagni (9.725, 14th) both cleared 9.700 as TWU scored a 48.875 on floor.
TWU struggled to gain a footing on bars however, with a team score of 47.725. TWU was paced by
Mara Johnson's 9.675, which earned a tie for 11th in the event.
The Pioneers continue their time on the road this coming weekend with a west coast swing, competing at Sacramento State on Friday, Feb. 18 and at UC Davis on Sunday, Feb. 20.
