DAVIS, Calif. – Five Texas Woman's University gymnasts set or equaled career highs as the Pioneers cleared the 194-point plateau for the fourth consecutive meet, posting a 194.275 in a second-place finish at Sunday's quad meet hosted by UC Davis at the University Credit Union Center.
"Having Steelie and Goose finish out the meet with back to back 9.9's was a huge way to finish the meet," said head coach
Lisa Bowerman. "I am particularly proud of so many of our athletes who have competed extremely consistently throughout this entire year. Mara, Kyla, Goose, Steelie, and Emily continue to be rock solid in each and every line-up they are in this season."
The Pioneers opened on floor, and were paced by matching 9.900 scores by
Madeline Gose and
Sierra Muns – Gose's score tying a career-high and Muns' score setting a new standard – as both Pioneers sat in a two-way tie for second place in the event.
Alix Pierce matched her career-high with a 9.850, tying for seventh, while
Mara Johnson tied for ninth with her 9.825 score.
Domi Bonzagni added a 9.725 to push the Pioneers to a 49.200 on floor – TWU's highest score on floor this season.
From there, the Pioneers moved to vault and were led by
Daisy Woodring's 9.850, which tied her for third.
Emerson Adams turned in another strong performance with her sixth-place 9.775, and
Emily Six set a career-high with her 9.750, tying for seventh. Gose and Muns both cleared the 9.7 threshold, with Gose finishing 12
th with a 9.725 and Muns 13
th with her 9.700 as the Pioneers scored a 48.800.
Kyla Podges and Johnson put up matching 9.675 scores on bars to tie for 11
th as TWU posted a 47.475 in the event, but the Pioneers would finish strong as the competition moved to beam.
Gose and
Steelie King put up matching 9.900 scores to tie for first – with King's score representing a new career high – and Six put up her second career-high of the night, tying for seventh with a 9.775. Podges finished 11
th with her 9.700 score as TWU turned in a 48.800 in the final event of the day.
The Pioneers return to the friendly confines of Kitty Magee Arena on Friday, Feb. 25, hosting LSU and Pittsburgh in a tri-meet beginning at 6 p.m. Central.
