TWU TRAVELS TO ARIZONA FOR SECOND MEET OF 2023

Madeline Gose and the Pioneers are set to compete in their second meet of 2023 in Arizona on Saturday.

TUCSON, Ariz. (Jan. 13, 2023) – For the first time since the 2017 season, the Texas Woman's gymnastics team travels to Tucson, Arizona to compete in a regular season meet.
 
On Saturday, Jan. 14, the Pioneers are set to compete in a quad meet hosted by the University of Arizona, also featuring the University of Illinois and Bowling Green State University.
 
TWU opened the 2023 season last week in Denver, scoring a 191.725. The Pioneers will look to build upon their season opening score this weekend in Arizona.

ROAD TRIP VIBES
  •  REARVIEW MIRROR: The Pioneers have met Arizona eight times in program history and, most recently, during the 2021 season in quad meet hosted by Air Force. At the Air Force meet, the Pioneers scored a 191.975, while the Wildcats finished with a 194.350. TWU has not been to Tuscon since the 2017 season. At a tri-meet featuring Arizona and Utah State in 2017, the Pioneers scored a 189.500 and Arizona scored a 194.025. In the WCGA Preseason Poll, Arizona was ranked No. 25. The Pioneers have never met Illinios and Bowling Green in competition prior to this season.
  • BRIGHT LIGHTS: At home meets in KMA, TWU shout out and throw t-shirts when a Pioneer score a 9.700 or higher. In Denver at their opening meet, eight Pioneers scored a 9.7 or higher in an event. Maddie Griffith scored a 9.8250 on bars, Mara Johnson hit a 9.7250 on vault and a 9.8250 on bars, Daisy Woodring finished with a 9.7500 on vault, Madeline Gose recorded a 9.7500 on floor, Emily Six scored a 9.7250 on beam, Brooke Ferrari finished with a 9.8750 on bars, Ruby Goad recorded a 9.7750 on beam and Kami Zarlengo hit a 9.7250 on bars.
  • TOP HITS: In her first career performance on floor, senior Kyla Podges scored a 9.6250. Podges also competed on bars (9.6250) and beam (9.6750) for the Pioneers at Denver. For her accomplishments, Podges received the MIC Coaches Choice Award of the Week, the first in conference history as they just started the award this season.
