DENTON, Texas (Nov 1, 2023) - The Texas Woman's soccer team was ranked third in the second NCAA Division II regional ranking of the season. This marks the best ranking in the history of the program.
In 2019, TWU was ranked as the fourth seed and earned a trip to the NCAA tournament.
"This ranking is a testament of our team's hard work, success and one game at a time approach thus far this season," Head Coach Babak Abouzar said. "With that being said we are not done. We still have a lot to accomplish this season and we're excited to continue the journey."
TWU (11-1-4, 6-1-3) is one of the four Lone Star Conference teams that were included in the top eight teams in the South Central Regional ranking. The Pioneers are also ranked second among LSC teams.
Dallas Baptist, who is currently at the top of the LSC, leads the regional ranking, and Colorado School of Mines and TWU complete the top three.
The other two LSC teams in the regional ranking, St. Mary's and Texas A&M International, ranked sixth and seventh respectively. SMU is third and TAMI fourth in the conference ranking.
DBU continues to be undefeated this season, and TWU has only recorded one loss thus far. Every other team ranked has two or more losses this season.
This Friday, Nov. 3, all four of the LSC teams listed above will play their last match of the regular season.
Next week's ranking will be the last NCAA Regional Ranking before the final selection show which will determine the regional seeding. The selection show is set to be on Monday, Nov. 13.
TWU will meet Angelo State on Friday, Nov. 3 at 1 p.m. at Pioneer Soccer Park for their final regular season match.
