DENTON, Texas (Nov. 22, 2023) – As the 2023 season comes to an end for the Texas Woman's soccer team, Alyssa Valdez's and Hayley Masoner's academic efforts are recognized by the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District team.
The CSC recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their efforts not only on the field but also in the classroom. Those athletes selected for All-District Teams will also be nominated to the CSC Academic All-American ballot.
Masoner, who was the only Pioneers named in the 2023 Lone Star Conference All-Academic Team a couple of weeks ago, is majoring in Nutrition and Food Sciences at TWU. The junior has an impressive 3.957 GPA.
The defender from Double Oak, TX. was a fundamental piece of the Pioneer's defensive back line this season. Masoner played 17 games this season, and started 16 of them -for a total of 1238 minutes played.
Valdez made the All-District Academic Team with a 3.719 GPA. The junior is majoring in Business Administration and has made the Chancellor's List Honors in three semesters, including Spring 2023.
The Pioneer's defender started all of the matches she played (17) this season and accumulated 1533 minutes played. Valdez scored her first career goal early this season on Sept. 5 against East Central.
Valdez was also named 2023 LSC All-Conference second team at the post season awards a couple of weeks ago.
