WESTMONT, Illinois (March 24, 2023) – The Texas Woman's Artistic Swimming team is headed to the finals in every category, as they clinch a final spot in the team routine during day two of competition on Friday.
The Pioneers soared their way to a sixth place finish with their team dragon routine. The team of
Maribella Falconer,
Candela Fidalgo Garcia,
Laura Klein Paredes,
Ashley Latchford,
Ada Monteys Vinardell,
Kimberly Poitras,
Regina Ramirez and
Anaya Kashikar performed a great, fiery routine to score a 76.4667.
TWU swam fourth in the preliminary competition, breaking the score from their preliminary routine in 2022 of 76.4167. The Pioneers advance to Saturday's finals at 2:10 p.m.
Prior to the team competition, TWU swam in the A and B Technical competition, where athletes swim the same routine to the same music and are judged on their total execution of the routine.
Seven Pioneers swam in the A Technical Figures. Latchord scored a 74.5252 to place the highest for TWU. Poitras and Klein Paredes both performed well, scoring a 70.4654 and 68.1132 respectively. Two Pioneers, Falconer and
Eva Fernández-Montenegro Serrano, placed right beside each other, swimming a strong routine. Kashikar and Monteys Vinardell also displayed solid performances for TWU in the technical competition.
In the B Figures, Ramirez repeated as a Top 10 finisher in technical competition, as she placed seventh as a freshman in 2022 and seventh as a sophomore in 2023. Ramirez broke her high from Collegiates last season, scoring a 72.3946 on Friday.
Joining her in the Top 10, marking the first time two Pioneers finished in the Top 10, was Fidalgo Garcia. Fidalgo Garcia placed eighth with a 71.9796.
Tomorrow, the Pioneers will compete in the final competitions for all categories, solo, duet, trio and team. The day will begin with the trio competition at 9:20 a.m. The full schedule and live stream can be viewed
