TWU CLAIMS HIGHEST SEED IN PROGRAM HISTORY FOR THE 2023 NCAA SOUTH CENTRAL REGIONAL TOURNAMENT

DENTON, Texas (March 5, 2023) – The Texas Woman's Basketball Team punched their ticket to the 2023 NCAA National Tournament tonight, as the Pioneers were announced as the No. 2 seed in the South Central Regional Tournament.
 
TWU (26-5) claimed their highest seed in the Regional Tournament in program history at No. 2. The Pioneers celebrated their highest seed in program history with Pioneer fans at a watch party at Raising Canes.
 
With Angelo State (25-6) claiming the No. 1 seed in South Central Region, the Pioneers will travel to San Angelo, Texas for the tournament March 10, 11 and 13.
 
In the first round of the tournament, which begins on Friday, March 10, the Pioneers will face seventh seed Lubbock Christian (22-10) for the second time in the postseason this year and second time in less than a week.
 
TWU goes dancing in March for the fourth time in program history and first time in back-to-back seasons.
 
With eight teams in the region, the Lone Star Conference claimed five spots, while the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference boasts three programs in the tournament this year.
 
The No. 1 seed ASU will square off with No. 8 seed West Texas A&M in the first round. On their side of the bracket, Colorado School of Mines (24-6) claimed the fourth seed and will meet fifth seed UT Tyler (24-7) in the opening round.
 
On TWU's side of the bracket, Regis (25-6), who received an automatic bid by winning the RMAC tournament title, received the third seed and will face sixth seed Black Hills State (22-7).
